Nicci Arentsen: Happy Halloween!
To kick off the season, my studio does either a roller-skating party or bowling party. The attire is always “dress up,” which makes it extra fun. The whole studio is invited to enjoy the start of the new season. Later that night, the dancers that are 12 and older are invited to the “Studio Sleepover!” This is where we all bring sleeping stuff to the studio, break up into teams, play crazy games, eat lots of snacks, make up dances, and get very little sleep (haha). I am a senior now so I just experienced my last of these two events which is sad for me, but the years of memories at these events I will never forget.
Now that it is Halloween week my studio, we also plan a fun event! All week at my studio is come in wearing favorite costume and bring a friend to dance. We all get super into it and wear our oldest costumes, the funniest ones, or plan a theme to all dress up as daily. Our teachers are even spirited and dress up along with us! In our ballet classes, our teachers treat us with Halloween music, so we get to do all our exercises to “Nightmare Before Christmas” or “Thriller.”
These are some of the fun spirit events that my studio does to kick off the new season. As I said earlier, I am a senior this year. I have been at my studio since I was five years old! I am sure cherishing every moment of this next season and crazy nervous/excited for my last competition season to officially begin!
Check out these costume photos from my studio!
Being a competitive dancer requires a lot of training and time and being a student is a handful of work too. Balancing both is not easy.
It’s that time of the year! It’s time to get ready for countless holiday shows and Nutcrackers!
Throughout my thirteen years of dance training this far, I have had some pretty extraordinary teachers.
It’s Kira and we are back! How is everyone? Ready for the new competition season? I know I am.

As a dancer, I've always been asked the question, ‘What’s your favorite dance genre?’ and to be honest, I never really know. It seems to change every time someone asks me…
But that is why you should meet as many people as possible when going to a dance event. And who knows, you might just meet one of your best friends for life.
Do you ever feel overwhelmed and wonder how you are going to get things done?
I can name so many amazing friendships I’ve made through my journey, and I’m only 12.
I can’t believe summer break is almost over and school starts in two weeks but who is counting right?
