Competing for Title not only elevates your performance experience but also offers unparalleled opportunities for personal growth and recognition.
This is more than a competition: it's your opportunity to showcase your talent and make your mark in the dance community.
Dancers competing for the prestigious Spotlight Title Award will showcase their talent in two categories:
1. Title Solo (Elite Gems Division only)
2. On-Stage Interview
Special Notes:
• Title Solos are not eligible in the Novice & Future Gems Division for the 2025 season.
• Combined scores from the Title Solo and on-stage interview will determine the overall winners.
• If multiple Solos are entered for Title, only the highest-scoring Solo will be used for the combined score.
• Title upgrades can be made at the event at the Regular Rate if time permits.
• Dancers must qualify at a Regional event to compete for the National Title.
• 2024 Titleholders are ineligible to compete in 2025 unless moving to a new age category, but may compete in subsequent years or at a different regional event in the 2025 season. The same dancer cannot hold the title in more than one event in the same year.

DANCE COMBO MUSIC: Contestants will perform a prepared dance combination in any style to a pre-selected piece of music.
A download link will also be provided to Studio Directors in the Teacher Packet approximately two weeks before the event.
INFO + FAQ about spotlight title:

• Title Solos will perform last in their Solo section, followed by a short break before the On-Stage Title Interview.
• For dancers with multiple Title Solos, additional Solos will be spaced throughout the performance order, with adequate rest time. The dancer's final Title Solo will always perform at the end of their section.
• Title upgrades made at the event will not be adjusted in the performance order. -
The On-Stage Interview is designed to showcase the dancer’s confidence, communication skills, and versatility. This portion allows dancers to connect with the judges and audience on a personal level, beyond their technical abilities. All contestants in the same Age Category will join the Show Director on stage to perform the biography, question, and dance combo portion of the program.
BIOGRAPHY:
Dancers will recite a bio that includes their name, age, city, state, studio, and teachers/choreographers.
This should be phrased in any style but must not include singing or additional information beyond the specified details.QUESTION:
Dancers will answer one of four questions, which can be obtained from the Stage Manager no more than one hour prior to the interview.DANCE COMBO:
Contestants will perform a prepared dance combination in any style to a pre-selected piece of music.
• NEW: There will no longer be point deductions for exceeding a time limit on the combo.

Basic dancewear and any type of shoe is permitted – No costumes; and embellishments of any kind are NOT permitted on the attire. Rhinestone jewelry and/or hair accessories are acceptable.

NOTE: Any dancer wishing to compete for National Title must qualify by competing for Title at Regionals.

NOTE: All National Title contestants receive 2 VIP wristbands for their guests to enter the final Extravaganza 15 minutes prior to General Seating to select their seats.

For the group panel interviews, each contestant will participate in a group interview with their peers led by a panel of 1-2 staff members. Interviews will last approximately 30 minutes per group and contestants will be judged on poise + appearance, personality, interaction, articulation, and content of answers. Contestants should dress in business casual attire for the interview.

All National Title contestants will perform in the Title Promenade at the final Extravaganza. The Title Promenade is a formal celebratory performance that dancers learn and rehearse throughout the week at Nationals. This opportunity allows the contestants to display their unique personalities in a visually engaging and elegant format. During this performance, Title contestants are introduced individually to the audience and given a chance to showcase their presence, poise, and confidence. The exciting and prestigious promenade occurs prior to the crowning of our National Title award winners.

National Title contestants ages 8 and older will have the incredible opportunity to perform in the prestigious Spotlight Elite production number. Dancers will be grouped by age and provided with choreography videos ahead of Nationals to prepare for the first day of rehearsals. Throughout the week, participants will work with a world-renowned choreographer, refining their skills and contributing to an extraordinary routine. This high-energy performance will serve as the grand opening of the Extravaganza Showcase on the final day of Nationals, creating an unforgettable highlight for our performers and audience.

SHARING THE SPOTLIGHT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Spotlight Dance Cup’s Sharing the Spotlight program recognizes individuals (ages 17-19) who excel both on and off stage. Individuals planning to further their dance education the semester following the competition season are eligible to apply. The purpose of this program is to honor students that are not only exceptional in dance, but also generously donate their time and talents to make a positive impact within their community. Whether it’s their uplifting presence within the studio, dedication to a local charity, or exemplary performance in school, these students exhibit the highest level of work ethic, motivation, and kindness.
These exceptional students serve as an inspiration through their ability to make everyone around them shine and, most importantly, will use the scholarship to further their dance education. Regional winners will receive a free solo to Nationals, and are automatically entered into our National Sharing the Spotlight contest for a chance to win up to $10,000 in scholarships for continued dance education.
You will be required to submit all of the following:
• Sharing the Spotlight Application
• Personal Essay or Video Submission
• A Letter of Recommendation
• High School Transcript
Please submit only one application per event. Multiple students may apply from the same studio. Students may apply at multiple regional competitions of which they are attending, but are only eligible to win at one regional competition per season. “Last chance” applications are due no later than June 1st. Applications may be resubmitted for any non-winning nominee that wishes to be reconsidered for the “last chance” contest. Scholarship winnings will be submitted directly to winners’ institution of choice. Spotlight Events abides by a non-discrimination policy and decisions will not be influenced by gender, race, ethnic background, sexual orientation, or cultural and religious backgrounds.
