Kira Howe: Recovering Back to the Stage
It’s Kira and we are back! How is everyone? Ready for the new competition season? I know I am. Our first competition is in January. When and where is yours? It’s hard to believe that it’s around the corner.
In February 2019, I was injured during an audition and the recovery process was a LONG one! In June, my doctor gave the OK to start dancing in July. I couldn’t believe it and I was ready to get back.
I was excited because it was amazing to be back on the dance floor. My choreographer/teacher, Val Manchin, gradually eased me back into dance. She was amazing and had a plan a set for me. My training also included pointe and I’m excited to be dancing in The Nutcracker. Message me on Instagram if you want more information about our performance! What a great way to meet and see the ballet performance.
As much excitement as there was for me to get back to dance, I didn’t realize how much I missed dance while I was out getting better. Was it easy to come back? Absolutely not. It was hard work, dedication and also, keeping focus on my training. My training included private lessons and regular classes to get me back to where I am today. My studio is amazing and I love the friends I have, plus the support from my wonderful teachers.
As excited as I am, I’m also nervous. I feel like the first time I took the stage when I was 9, however, the excitement of being on stage is something I can’t wait for. Performing gives me the opportunity to express and share what I feel with the audience. Good luck in 2020 and like we say: “S H I N E”!!

Being a competitive dancer requires a lot of training and time and being a student is a handful of work too. Balancing both is not easy.
It’s that time of the year! It’s time to get ready for countless holiday shows and Nutcrackers!
Throughout my thirteen years of dance training this far, I have had some pretty extraordinary teachers.

To kick off the season, my studio does either a roller-skating party or bowling party. The attire is always “dress up,” which makes it extra fun.
As a dancer, I've always been asked the question, ‘What’s your favorite dance genre?’ and to be honest, I never really know. It seems to change every time someone asks me…
But that is why you should meet as many people as possible when going to a dance event. And who knows, you might just meet one of your best friends for life.
Do you ever feel overwhelmed and wonder how you are going to get things done?
I can name so many amazing friendships I’ve made through my journey, and I’m only 12.
I can’t believe summer break is almost over and school starts in two weeks but who is counting right?
