I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to dance better than myself.
— Mihkail Baryshnikov

Hello everyone!

By now, you’ve all started your competition season. I know I have, and was I nervous? You bet! Sometimes, this is called fear. How did you feel? What did you do to overcome it? I realize that in our daily lives, we are faced with challenges, which brings fear.

The greatest challenge with fear is that it can hold us back from achieving our goals and it shouldn’t have to.
So, I wanted to share the tips I use to overcome fear and hope that you find these helpful.

A. Start small.

By this, I mean slowly step out of your comfort zone and begin moving towards your goals. Write them down and check them off as you achieve them.

B. Have faith.

You know you’re scared, but you need to believe in yourself. I tell myself “I’ve got this”, take a deep breath, and go for it. Learning to believe and trust in yourself is the key to success. It’s not easy, but if I can do it, so can YOU!

C. Accept what comes out of it.

Meaning that dancing is not about placing 1st all the time. It’s about remembering your hard work on stage was the best feeling you’ve had. Accept it, be thankful, and never compare yourself to anyone else.

D. Let go.

I’ve learned that letting go is one of the greatest challenges in overcoming fear and it has allowed me to focus more on the present and enjoy that moment on stage.
I would love to hear from you on this topic through my blog with Spotlight or my Instagram page kirahowe_ and remember to BELIEVE and SHINE!
